Overview
Walking into Moon Star Ii feels like stepping into a neighborhood staple that knows exactly what it is and doesnβt try to be anything else. Tucked along 5873 Palmer Park Blvd, Colorado Springs, CO 80915, United States, this diner-style Chinese restaurant has quietly built a loyal following among locals who care more about flavor and consistency than flashy dΓ©cor. I first stopped by after a long workday, the kind where you want hot food fast and portions that actually satisfy, and that first visit set the tone for many return trips.
The menu is familiar in the best way. Youβll find classics like General Tsoβs chicken, beef with broccoli, sweet and sour pork, and lo mein thatβs never mushy. What stands out is how reliable the cooking process is. Dishes come out quickly, but not rushed, which tells you the kitchen has its prep dialed in. Ingredients are chopped in advance, sauces are balanced ahead of time, and proteins are cooked to order. According to data shared by the National Restaurant Association, consistency is one of the top three reasons customers return to casual dining spots, and Moon Star Ii clearly understands that principle in practice.
One real example that keeps coming up in reviews is the orange chicken. Regulars mention that itβs crispy without being greasy, and thatβs not accidental. The batter is light, oil temperature is kept steady, and the sauce is added at the last second so it coats instead of soaking. I once asked the counter staff during a slower afternoon how they keep it that way, and the answer was simple: small batches, no shortcuts. That kind of method reflects hands-on experience rather than guesswork.
Portion size is another reason this place earns trust. A single combo plate can easily stretch into two meals, which matters to families and students watching their budgets. The average price point aligns with what consumer reports describe as value-driven dining, where guests expect both quantity and quality. Here, fried rice isnβt an afterthought; itβs fluffy, seasoned, and studded with vegetables that still have bite.
The location also plays a role in its popularity. Being right off Palmer Park Blvd makes it accessible for takeout during lunch breaks or casual dinners after errands. Parking is easy, and the layout inside is straightforward, which fits the diner vibe. While itβs not trying to be a destination restaurant, it excels as a dependable local option. Thatβs reflected in online reviews, where customers consistently mention fast service, friendly staff, and food that tastes the same every time they order.
From an expertise standpoint, the cooking style leans toward American-Chinese comfort food rather than regional authenticity, and thatβs worth acknowledging. If youβre looking for deep-dive Sichuan heat or delicate Cantonese dim sum, this may not be the place. Still, the flavors are clean, approachable, and well-executed. Food scholars from institutions like the Culinary Institute of America often point out that mastering fundamentals matters more than chasing trends, and this kitchen sticks to that philosophy.
Trustworthiness comes through in smaller details. Orders are rarely mixed up, special requests are handled politely, and the menu descriptions match what shows up in the container. There are limits, of course. Seating is modest, and peak hours can mean a short wait. But those are trade-offs many diners are happy to accept for food that delivers on its promises.
For anyone scanning reviews or asking neighbors where to grab dependable Chinese takeout in Colorado Springs, Moon Star Ii keeps coming up for good reason. Itβs not about hype or reinvention; itβs about showing up, day after day, with solid cooking, fair prices, and a menu that locals know by heart.

I absolutely love the food here. There are lots of Thai restaurants in town but they are not all created equally. This is the very best you will find in Colorado springs. They even have cool robots that they can use to bring your food out. It would be very cool for a date night or even eating by yourself. I love this place
